Models - Italy

Summary

Like the Dutch-Flemish painting tradition, the Italian also produced an enormous number of great masters.

Apart from the favorites of Egon von Vietinghoff shown on the left, there have to be named additional painters whose works he went to look at again and again including Fra Angelico, Fra Filippo Lippi, Uccello, Perugino, Tintoretto, Veronese and the fresco-painters Cimabue, Giotto, Filippino Lippi, Ghirlandaio, P. de la Francesco, Signorelli.

Apart from France (the city of Paris), Italy is the country he visited most frequently and must have known best. There were almost no regions he did not see. Again and again he visited the museums and churches, and let himself be inspired by the wide open squares, the narrow and winding streets, and the antique monuments. Stimulated by so many artistic and scenic impressions, he returned to his own studio refreshed and full of creative power.
