Exhibitions during his lifetime

Already as a very young artist Egon von Vietinghoff showed his paintings in the museums of Zurich (1921) and Winterthur in Switzerland (1935), and in Paris, France, at the Salon d'Automne (1928, 1932) and the Salon des Tuileries (1931-1933). But the dominance of the abstract painters in the art market and the start of World War II prevented the continuance of these promising beginnings. Vietinghoff was occasionally mentioned in painters' lexicons in a few short lines and he did not reveive any encouragment from the art world..
Occasional exhibitions in several towns of Switzerland and southern Germany as well as once more in Paris and once in New York brought him personal but not official recognition. In the course of time and in spite of all temptations, he was able to live on the proceeds of his paintings as he gained notoriety among private art lovers. Thus he would be almost independent of galleries in his old age.
